Services
Let’s work together!
Choosing the right editor for your project can be daunting with so many options and levels of editing available. If you’re not sure that I’m the right fit for your project I always offer a free sample edit before creating an estimate for your project. This allows you to see how I edit before anything is set in stone.
While I work with most genres, I may not be the best fit for Christian or religious fiction, poetry, academic work, or nonfiction. Though, if you’re unsure whether or not I will take your genre please don’t hesitate to reach out!
The genres that I love and have the most experience with are fantasy, sci-fi, romance, and YA.
Manuscript Critique
Are you looking for a professional assessment of your manuscript? Something more than what a regular beta read entails? Someone who can give you objective and constructive advice on your manuscript? Then this might be the service for you!
A manuscript critique is an evaluation of your manuscript where I will read and assess your story for overall plot structure, character development, pacing, world-building, and other story-related concerns you may have.
As a writer myself, I understand how harrowing the critique process can be. I’m not here to rip your writing to shreds, but rather to provide feedback that is equal parts kind and constructive.
What You Get:
A multiple-page editorial letter
Your manuscript returned with in-text notes that I will make while I read
A multi-page assessment of your overall story with an emphasis on: plot, character, world building, setting, pacing, and more.
Line Editing
Have you finished your novel, but want to make sure it flows well? That's where a line edit comes in!
This service will include a line-by-line examination of your manuscript. I will focus on things like consistency, word choice, point-of-view, syntax, and other such elements that are essential to a smooth reading experience. If you want to make sure your character with red hair in chapter one doesn't suddenly have blonde hair in chapter fifteen or want someone to catch that a word has been repeated five times in one sentence then this is the service for you!
The purpose of my feedback is to be constructive and beneficial, not to tear down your writing. My goal is to support you in your writing journey!
What You Get:
Detailed notes in the text using tracked changes
A "clean" and "edited" copy of your manuscript
Suggestions for improvement
Basic grammar fixes (though please note that this is not a copyedit. For copyediting, please see my other services.)
A cover letter stating how changes were made
Copyediting
Not sure where that comma goes or if you need a quotation mark at the end of a paragraph of dialogue? If you have a fiction piece of writing that you would like to have copyedited by a professional then this service is for you!
Copyediting is the level of editing that puts the manuscript under a microscope. It deals with issues that (in general) have more to do with language than with the story or plot. My copyedit will focus on mechanical issues including punctuation, spelling, and grammar. I prefer to do a light copyedit, but if you would rather I do a heavier copyedit or if you have a particular grammar issue you would like me to watch out for, let me know ahead of the sample edit and I can adjust accordingly.
What I Will Do:
Ensure consistency in mechanical matters (i.e., spelling, capitalization, punctuation, hyphenation, abbreviation, etc)
Correct all errors in grammar, syntax, and usage
Point out areas that are wordy or convoluted (but will not rewrite entire paragraphs)
Follow the Chicago Manual of Style guidelines
Deliver both an "edited" copy and a "clean" copy to you
Write a cover letter stating how changes were made in the file
Proofreading
Do you need one last set of eyes to look over your manuscript before you submit to a publisher? A proofread is the final pass of a manuscript. This level of editing is meant to catch any typos, formatting errors, and other small issues that may not have been caught during the copyedit as a final coat of polish to the manuscript.
In order to get this service your manuscript will need to have gone through a full copyedit (from either myself or another copy editor).
What You Get:
An edited copy of your manuscript with redlining
A clean copy with changes applied
A cover letter stating how changes were made
Pricing
Due to the varied nature of writing, each project is completely different and will have a unique estimate for the price of the project. For most projects I charge by the word, and all of my prices are within industry standards. I currently accept payments through Paypal, Zelle, or credit card.
Please note that a 30% nonrefundable deposit is required at the time of booking.
