Frequently Asked Questions
What are the differences in the types of editing you offer?
I offer line editing, copyediting, and proofreading. For more information on these services click here.
Is a manuscript critique just a beta read?
While the two are similar, I consider my version of a manuscript critique to be a more in-depth version of a beta read because I make in-text comments and write a multi-page editorial letter full of information.
How much do you charge for services?
Each project is completely different, so there isn’t a singular price for each service. I use a freelance calculator to create an estimate based on the project specifications and I am happy to answer questions regarding my rates.
For each service there is a 30% nonrefundable deposit required before I begin working on your manuscript. I currently charge by the word, and my rates are within industry standards. You can find a helpful chart on the rates that I follow here.
Do you offer sample edits?
Yes! I offer free sample edits up to 1,250 words. This not only allows you to see how I edit before any money is involved, but it also helps me assess where the manuscript is and which service would work best. This way you are 100% satisfied with my work before moving forward.
How long until I get my edits back?
When I send the quote I will also send an estimate for the amount of hours it will take for me to complete the project. My editing speed can vary based on many different factors, but if you have a specific deadline please let me know and we can discuss options.
Do you offer rush delivery?
Rush delivery largely depends on my current schedule and how quickly I would need to complete the project, but feel free to contact me and we can discuss your options. If I’m able to do the rush edit, please be aware that there is a 10% surcharge.
Do you follow a style guide?
I follow the Chicago Manual of Style for most of my mechanical editing decisions. If there is a particular style rule that deviates from Chicago that you would prefer instead then let me know before I begin editing.
